Sedation Dentistry for Calming, Pain-Free Care
Sedation Dentistry: The Solution for Anxious Patients
Dental fear and anxiety is a common concern for many patients—roughly 40 million Americans experience dental fear to some degree. Avoiding the dentist is never a good idea, no matter how anxious you may be. The longer you delay treatment for oral concerns, the more likely your problems are to worsen and require extensive care. To help anxious patients receive the dental care they need, we offer effective sedation dentistry options. Sedation dentistry is proven to help patients relax, block sensations of pain and can even help you not remember your treatment at all.
Our patients typically have an improved outlook on their dental health after receiving gentle care under the effects of sedation dentistry.
Our Sedation Dentistry Options
At Thomas Smile Designs we want to make your dental treatments as painless and anxiety-free as possible. We offer multiple forms of sedation dentistry, including oral sedation and advanced IV sedation, dependent upon your needs. We have also invested in state-of-the-art technology, The Wand®, for painless anesthesia injection. The Wand helps even those who are afraid of needles, get the dental care they need without worry. At Thomas Smile Designs, we offer the following dental sedation options:
-
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is a form of sedation dentistry that is administered in pill form before your treatment takes place. You will often feel sleepy and be in a dream-like state under the effects of oral sedation and require a ride home after treatment.
-
Nitrous Oxide
Often referred to as “laughing gas” nitrous oxide is a gas that is administered via a mask worn at the time of treatment. The effects of this sedation dentistry are immediate, making you calm and worry-free. Unlike oral sedation, after the gas is removed, you will quickly return to normal.
-
IV Sedation
An advanced form of sedation dentistry, we will call in a professional anesthesiologist to administer IV sedation and monitor you during treatment. Under the effects of IV sedation you will likely fall asleep and not remember much of your procedure at all.
-
Local Anesthetic
Often used in conjunction with other forms of sedation dentistry, local anesthetic is applied directed to the site of treatment. This numbs sensations of pain, with most patients only reporting feeling a dull pressure. If anxiety is a concern, you will often need to pair this with oral sedation or nitrous oxide.
-
The Wand® Anesthesia
The Wand administers computer-guided doses of local anesthetic without the need of a large needle. This reduces the feeling of residual numbing and is helpful for those who have anxiety of needles or pain.
